The well is locally famous, called "the Well," McMurrin's Well, and McMurry's Well.

S. H. SMITH, M'LENNAN PIONEER PASSES AWAY
Sam Houston Smith, aged 81, one of the pioneers of Waco and a resident of McLennan County for 55 years, died at 7 p.m. yesterday at his home at 410 Dallas Street.
Mr. Smith served for a number of years as a trustee for the public schools and during his many years here was identified with many community enterprises. He was born in Alabama Dec. 4, 1840, and moved to Texas in 1855, serving for four years in the Confederate Army. His death is a cause of deep sorrow throughout a large circle of friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. W.C. Burton, pastor of the Central Presbyterian, of which the decedent was a member, and Rev. B.T. Goodwin, pastor of the Turner Street Baptist church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The pioneer is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. E.M. Coates and Mrs. J. A. Pipkin, both of Waco; three sons, Sam E. Smith and C.G. Smith of Boston, Mass., Leslie R. Smith, Waco, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Maddox, Weatherford, and Mrs. J. S. McCall, Fort Worth.
